Self-Directed IRA or Roth IRA, Self-Directed 401(k), Self-Directed Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA), or Other Qualified Plans
Something that most people do not know is that you can invest your pretax retirement funds or education funds in more than stocks and bonds. There is something called a self-directed plan (this may be an IRA, Keogh, 401(k), pension or profit-sharing plan, SEP, or SIMPLE; or Coverdell ESA) that allows you to decide where to put your money — in tropical trees, for example. It is important if you are interested in doing this that you read up about the limitations. While we can’t offer investment advice, we can tell you where to find that information. One thing to realize is that any payouts will not go directly to you, but back into your account. The normal withdrawal rules for these types of accounts apply.
Finca Leola S.A. has worked to help people set up these accounts with one of the two major self-directed retirement account administrators that facilitate tree purchases in IRAs. If you are interested in doing this, please contact us and we can help you through the process.
Notice: We are not financial advisors, but are willing to share with you our information sources, experiences, and observations. It is up to you to do your own research and evaluation to determine if you wish to invest in any reforestation project. |
